Unanchored
Unanchored, Angelika Stielow, Hamburg, 2018
Like a boat detached
from its pier
I am languishing
in your lagoon
The water is not too deep
it is not too shallow
it is not too cold
but nor is it entirely comfortable
I am swimming in your pond
attempting to keep my head above water
paddling frantically
trying not to go under
I am a fish that
caught on a hook,
wants to be reeled in
at the same time as it struggles to wrest free
I am not a tadpole
this is not my first time
probably, it will not be the last
life is full of surprises.
