Worldliness and Worldliless
World from Outer Space, Vija Celmins, 1968
Exposition at Art Gallery of Ontario 2019
Collection of Harold Cook
One of the grandest problems facing the world
is that it has become
so incredibly small for some
and so unbelievably large for others.
If I knew the real significance of these words
I would tell you
but I am not there yet
be patient – I am working on it.
In the meantime, I feel that
worldliness and worldliless
are in a death-throe
pummeling away at our humanity.
In this confrontation,
the fronts have no boundaries
the alliances have no constancy
the militants change uniforms, ongoingly.
