I thought I might
hold you tight
forever.
I later understood
that you might not would
neither now nor ever -
for an army of arguments
that I might consider frivolous
assuming I understood them.
They are your religion:
altars on which you pray
sanctuaries that you run to.
I seek no shelter.
I require no safe haven.
I fancy no foil.
Yet, I am as vulnerable
as a lamb in spring
frail, confused, unknowing.
I want your journey to be mine
but I knew not then, and I know not now
its destination, much less its design.
